84th Session Priorities

Because an insufficient workforce creates barriers to care for all Texans, expansion of the mental health and substance use disorder workforce was the TCHM’s main priority during the 84th Texas Legislative Session. In 2014, more than 93 percent of the state’s┬ápopulation lived in 226 different counties with mental health workforce shortages. Underserved areas, populations, and settings exist in every county in Texas.
