The Texas Coalition for Healthy Minds focuses on mobilizing interested stakeholders to work with state leaders to improve policies and increase funding for mental health services and access to care in Texas.
Our priority for the 84th Texas Legislature in 2015 was to expand the mental health and substance use disorder workforce.
An insufficient workforce creates barriers to care for all Texans. In 2014, more than 93 percent of the state’s population lived in 226 different counties with mental health workforce shortages. Underserved areas, populations, and settings exist in every county in Texas.
